Helena Goldwater
'Not Tonight Darling, I'm washing my hair'
February 23, 2001
The audience was witness to a night-in,
avoiding an unwelcome date through the
washing of one's hair in the bath, but as one
joined Helena one-on-one in the bathroom it is
obvious that there is more to this legendary
activity than at first meets the eye. This was
a performance installation exploring
autoeroticism, through a pleasurable activity
of the everyday. A performer of rare wit and
humour Helena explores the intimate rituals of
the home. Helen Goldwater makes
predominately solo performances for a
diversity of venues including clubs, galleries,
site-specific spaces and theatres, and has
shown internationally since 1989.
