 Marcia Farquhar
 'Coming Round'
 January 26, 2001
In 'Coming Round' former un-badged Brownie, Marcia Farquhar baked fairy
cakes in the kitchen of home from a recipe in her former Brownie Handbook  and discussed their meaning. The sponge cake as both cultural signifier and  economic force were not underestimated. Quantities of sponge were
 available to the audience.
Marcia Farquhar's performances revolve around the stories and interactions
of her every-day life particularly in relation to the meaning and histories of
objects. Recent performances of 'Acts of Clothing' at the South London
Gallery, introduced in a Farquar tartan flamenco dress made for the
occasion, saw her model a range of her own clothes whilst recounting their
histories drawing on personal, cultural and social associations. In
'Afternoons: Content may Vary' during the Deptford X Festival 2000, she
filmed six people experiencing afternoons she had known. While these films
played in the corner of a living room space on the Pepys Estate she
dedicated an afternoon to each protagonist - the school girl, the mother,
the teacher, the artist, the patient and the shop assistant -wearing their
clothes in a live performance over the six days of the festival. Other
performances include; 'Surprise, Surprise' April 2000 at the Virgin Megastore,
'Museli and Metzger' May 2000 at Trinity Buoy Wharf and her video
performance 'Victim of Crime' at the Design Museum.
